Home Extension Electrician, Wellington & Lower Hutt

Ginger Electrics does the electrical work for home extensions across Wellington and Lower Hutt. An extension has to work with the electrical system already in the house. So Shane looks at what's there first, then plans the new space to suit.

Book your free pre-reno electrical walkthrough

Shane will look over your plans, talk through your options and give you a clear picture of what's needed before work starts.

No pressure, just good advice from a local registered electrician.

Will my existing wiring and switchboard cope with an extension?

Not always, and it's better to know before the build starts. Shane assesses the existing lighting, wiring and switchboard. He identifies any work needed to bring them up to current codes and standards, as part of the project.

If the board needs upgrading or a section needs rewiring, it goes on the plan with the extension instead of turning up halfway through.

Electrical planned on the extension drawings

Bring Shane in at the design stage and the extension's electrical requirements go on the plans before work starts on site. Lights, power points and where they feed from get settled on paper.

Hire Shane directly, or through your builder

You don't need a builder to bring Ginger Electrics onto an extension. If your builder is running the job, they can bring Shane in as the electrician.

Home extension FAQs

Do you do electrical work for home extensions?

Yes. Home extensions are an area Ginger Electrics wants to do more of. Shane works from the project plans so the new space ties in with the existing home.

Do I have to bring the whole house up to code?

The assessment works out which parts, if any, need to come up to current codes and standards for the extension. You'll know which, and why, before work starts.

Can you quote from the extension plans?

Send Shane the plans and he can review the electrical from them. He'll tell you whether he can quote from the drawings or needs a look on site first.

How long does the electrical work on an extension take?

It depends on the size of the extension and what the existing house needs. Ask Shane for a timeframe when he quotes.
